Twenty years ago, Dylan and Russell Gladhart studied winemaking together in Burgundy. Russell now farms Winter's Hill, an estate in the Dundee Hills, in the heart of the Willamette Valley. We've stayed in touch with him over the years and always talked vaguely about making something together.
When the January cold left us short of fruit in 2024, Russell offered us some of his, giving us the chance to keep the cellar running in a vintage that otherwise might have brought things to a halt. We jumped in the car and visited a number of vineyards before selecting what we thought was the perfect match.

Chardonnay 'Tradition' 2024
New release · Dundee Hills, Oregon
The fruit is pure and restrained, combining zesty lemon with crunchy green apple and Anjou pear. The oak follows suit, adding a delicate accent of toasted clove and nutmeg. It’s hard not to see a Chablis-like quality to the wine, both bright and elegant, with a distinctive minerality drawn from Dundee Hills’ volcanic soils.
Pinot Gris 'Tradition' Willamette Valley 2024
A fascinating contrast to the Artist Series Pinot Gris. The winemaking is an ode to France, with longer maturation in seasoned barrels to build texture and layers of complexity. There’s a rounded quality to the fruit, with honeyed pear and white peach, alongside honeysuckle, vanilla, and spice. Sourced from a cooler sub-AVA within the Willamette Valley, there’s a brightness to the fruit that beautifully balances the broad, viscous texture.
Pinot Gris 'Artist' 2024
“It opens with perfumed aromas of mango peel and mountain air. On the palate, this Gris is bold and unapologetic as it buzzes with electric acidity and boasts prominent minerality at the forefront. Notes of starfruit, pear and almond chime in and continue at length on an everlasting finish.”

Lighter in style but with exceptional density of fruit, it shows cranberry, tart cherry, and rhubarb, alongside herbal spice and an earthy minerality. It’s bright, suave, and moreish; truly a Pinot for Pinot Noir lovers.
Pinot Noir 'Tradition' Dundee Hills 2024
A single vineyard Pinot Noir from the renowned Dundee Hills AVA of the Willamette Valley, this shows the depth, richness, and complexity distinctive to the region. Expect lush red cherry, pomegranate, and raspberry, lifted by alluring violet florals. Dundee Hills is about more than just the fruit, and this shows the iron-like minerality of its volcanic soils, framed by a delicate touch of toast and clove.
